Agents from the U.S. Secret Service and Federal Bureau of Investigation raided the company’s headquarters in Greenville on Dec. 17, 2005. Since that time, federal officials have not indicated whether there is any criminal action taken or pending regarding the company, although the attorney representing the owner of Internet Gold in the suit stated in court documents there was an investigation underway.

What’s going on with the digital gold industry now that we need it most? With the recent economic recession, gold seems more reliable but then most of the digital gold currencies are in comma.

Hi David,
Big changes with some pure DGC players I suspect. The operators for the most part seem to be updating or upgrading to protect themselves and their customers money. I suspect we will see some software changes like Digital Bearer Certs where the operator cannot find out who is using the funds or for what transaction but at the same time has already verified the account owner like GoldMoney does. Through the end of the year, it looks like Webmoney will be pulling way ahead with global commerce. WM picked up over a million new accounts in less than 6 months, they are booming and offer such a fine product. And of course if you are a betting person, or ‘hyip’ risk taker and like to lose all your money….Liberty Reserve is taking the lead in that direction. At the same time, I see many-many new e-commerce companies also accepting LR. I suppose we have finally answered that question, “which comes first the merchants or the users” because in came the LR users to the ponzis and now arriving are the merchants. I think many more DGCs will be appearing in the next 6 months, however it may never be so wild and free like years past. Gold is real money but the Internet is changing.
